How Can We Help?
How to use the Built-In Recorder
General notes and warnings
Recording may affect your game performances, it depends on your hardware, game configuration and recording settings. There is no a unique recipe for everyone: default settings (30 FPS, 720p, 6000k bitrate) should record something acceptable without impacting your game performance.
If it happens:
- try to decrease the framerate
- try to decrease the bitrate
- play with preset settings
- change the codec from X264 (CPU) to an hardware codec like NVIDIA NVENC or AMD AMF, or, the contary, switch from hardware codec to the CPU one.
- avoid downscaling
More quality means more heavier recording, more CPU or more GPU consumed.
In-Game Recording
to enable the build in recorder we need to enable it first, by default is disabled.
Go to the Settings Tab
Now click the “Video Capture and Replay” tab
Then we can enable the Build-In recorder by clicking “Build-In”
Once selected the Built-In recorder, you have to download the addon, an FFMpeg executable application. Is not included in the application setup to avoid burdening the download and installation, you should be able to download it in a few seconds.
And finally confirm by enabling the switch
Do note that options marked with a yellow STAR are for Premium Members only.
Lets go over the sections one by one.
Main Recording settings
Here you can change where recorded videos and replays are saved.
Trucky offer three ways of recording:
- Replay Buffer: the recording buffer is kept in memory for 1-2 minutes (depending on framerate)
- Job Session: the recording starts automatically when a job is started and stopped when the job is delivered or canceled. This creates a video for each job
- Full Session: the recording starts with the game and is stopped when the game is closed. This creates a video for each game session
Manual capture and automatic replay on damage are available on all modes.
Automatic Replay Triggers (explained below) are available on Job Session and Full Session mode
Job Events triggers (record moments when the job starts, the final delivery moments or when the job is canceled) are available only on Full Session
Recording Full Game Session and Job Session are Premium features.
Replay Settings
Main focus of the Auto Replay feature is recording collision events.
Manual Capture
Manual Capture Before and Past duration can be configured separately from automatic replay.
Default Hotkey: ALT+C
Auto Replay Settings
The Enable auto replay on collisions is basically the master switch if you do not want to use collision replay rendering simply disable this switch.
Enable auto replay on singleplayer / multiplayer (for multiplayer is intended TruckersMP) will only record collision replays if you are playing that gamemode.
Consider trailer damage / Consider cargo damage will also trigger the replay if the cargo or trailer gets damaged
Sensitivity and replay settings
The Minimum Damage is the percentage damage that the truck trailer or cargo needs to get at once to trigger the replay.
Duration before event is the amount of seconds before the collision that should be rendered.
Duration after the event is the amount of seconds to render after the collision.
Manual replay follows this before and future duration settings.
Automatic Triggers
Trucky can create automatically replays of game highlights based on events
Every event has a default before and future duration way limited than the damage or manual capturing.
Job Events are intended to cut replays for moments immediately before and after the job key events:
- When the job starts
- When the job is canceled
- When the job is completed: this cuts 1 minute replay that should be enough to capture last moments of your parking process
Video Capture Settings
These control how the output video will look and feel like.
Video settings
The output format is the file format that the end video will use. Trucky can record in:
- MKV
- MP4 (Default and suggested)
- AVI
The Video Codec settings is particularly important for optimizing and improving performances during the recording. Using the proper Codec based on your Video Graphic Manifacturer, will improve recording quality and performance because this will use natively the GPU Hardware Acceleration:
If you have a NVIDIA Graphic Card:
- NVIDIA NVENC
If you have a AMD Graphic Card:
- H264 AMF
Other codecs are based on CPU.
Here a comparison for all Codecs Trucky can uses:
Codec | Type | Hardware Acceleration | Quality | Performance | Uses Cases | Suggested Framerate | Suggested Resolution |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
X264 | Software (H.264) | No | Excellent | Moderate (CPU) | Streaming, video production, archiving | 30-60 FPS | 1080p or higher |
NVidia H264 NVENC | Hardware (H.264) | Yes (NVIDIA) | Good | Fast | Gaming, live streaming | 60 FPS | 1080p or higher |
AMD H264 AMF | Hardware (H.264) | Yes (AMD) | Good | Fast | Live streaming, gaming on AMD hardware | 60 FPS | 1080p or higher |
Presets and Bitrate are intended for advanced and experienced users who wants to tweak more the recording quality and performance.
The Framerate has a huge impact on filesize, by default 30 Frames per second this is how many frames it uses per second of recording (refreshrate of the video footage), useful to capture video intended for slowmo or with a lot of details in quick movement
You can set:
- 12 FPS
- 24 FPS
- 30 FPS
- 45 FPS
- 60 FPS
Resolution is the size of the video by default 720P 1280×720, can be set to 1080p or 2K, keep in mind the higher the more detailed but also increases the file size.
Trucky can record in:
- 360p
- 720P (1280×720)
- 1080P (1920×1080 FULL HD)
- 2K
- Original Size (no downscaling)
Audio settings
By default you can only record microphones however with the use of a Virtual Cable (instructions below) you can also record the game sound.
The output device can be set to any of your microphones the screenshot shows the virtual cable setting (explained below)
The input device can be set to any mic to record your voice during the recording.
Using game sound as mic input
Using the game sound as microphone input is not hard to do and need an additional software, lets go over the steps. We need an audio driver acting as bridge between the Game Audio and the Recording Input channel.
First go to https://vb-audio.com/Cable/
Now click the Windows download button as shown below:
Next extract the zip archive on your computer and open the appropiate setup
Next click install driver and wait until it states that the driver is installed.
Restart the PC after the install
After the installation and reboot, check your Windows Audio Settings, if the VB-Audio Cable installation changed your default Output device to CABLE Input, change it back to your Speakers or your usual output device. The driver installation may have altered your default Audio settings.
From the Windows Tray icon, click on the Audio settings, then Sound Settings:
Check if your Audio Devices are configured properly:
Now scroll down to “More Sound Settings”, we have to make an extra configuration bit on the CABLE device:
Select the Recording tab, then find the CABLE Output device, select it and click on Properties:
This will open the CABLE Ouput Properties window, select the Listen tab and then:
- Enable “Listen to this device”
- Check if the “Playback through this device” is selected as “Default Playback Device”
Click OK, close the Properties window.
Then, go in Trucky > Settings > Video Capture and Replay, scroll down, and set the Capture Output device
Now open the game, Settings > Audio, select CABLE Input
If you have configured everything correctly, you should hear the game sound normally through your usual Output device.
If you don’t, please review each step to check if you are missing a setting.
Hotkeys
There are two hotkeys for recording, defaults are:
ALT+C : Manual Replay Capture
ALT+CONTROL+R : Start or Stop Video Capture
Recording Status for Game Info and Desktop Helper
Recording Status is available for Game Info and Desktop Helper.
To enable the Recording Status info in Game Info, go to Settings > Customize > Show Recording Status under “Other Components” section
For Game Info in horizontal mode, the Recording Status is shown as a blinking red circle without text at the beginning (left) of the window.
While for Desktop Helper is available the widget “Recording Status”
Review Recordings and Replays after the game
In any moment during game play and after the game, you can review main recordings created and replays from the Game Summary page
Replays are created while the main recording is recorded and written to filesystem. The Main Recording is finalized when the game is closed or the recording has been stopped.
